Upon arriving at this home for the first time I wasn’t sure I had the right address - the boarded up window, rotting porch and overgrown garden seemed beyond repair. However these post war workers cottages are Heritage listed and the clients had a vision of a cottage reborn with modern amenities and character finishing touches.

As the team from Room for You led me through the abandoned rooms and asked for design advice I pictured the back breaking work ahead of them. However you can see by the amazing result that the owner builders, led by Steve Miller (builders reg 100531) were more than capable for the task.

The roof was cleaned and repaired, more labour intensive than replacing with concrete tiles or steel but the natural colours of the clay tiles, complemented by Dulux Colorbond Basalt on the guttering, gave a stunning result. New cladding was painted Dulux Colorbond Shale Grey, porch columns are Dulux Vivid White. and the crowning touch was the porch styling by French and Delaney Property Staging

To install modern amenities in these postwar cottages is no easy task but with plans drafted by livia hawker two new bathrooms were built, one an ensuite, with finishes is crisp black and white to bring the period style up to date.

What would the cooks of the 50’s give to have this kitchen today! A tumbledown sleepout was done away with to give the kitchen it’s beautiful window and catch ups with the cook can happen at the island or the adjoining cosy sitting area that has French Doors to the newly built deck.

Please check out the fireplace - after being charred with squatters’ fires, many hours of cleaning have restored it to its former glory, ready for crackling flames and confidential chats.

All 3 bedrooms have full height wardrobes, flatpack units were installed on site and their Shaker style is a real design statement. With high ceilings fitted with ceiling fans and large windows hung with floaty sheers the rooms feel spacious and freshly installed carpet gives a soft feel underfoot.

I’m tremendously proud to be involved in this wonderful and successful project. The home was listed by Dethridge Groves Real Estate and of course, is now under offer.
